Global Classroom

Welcome to the Global Classroom at WorldSong:

The staff and educators of WorldSong invite your school to join us for a fun and exciting learning experience at our day camps. WorldSong provides research-based multi-cultural classes providing experiences for the auditory, tactile, visual and kinesthetic learner. Our global classrooms help to develop awareness, knowledge, and appreciation for the culture studied. WorldSong is a ministry of the Alabama WMU.

Rain Forest
The study of the Rain Forest takes place in WorldSong’s own “tropical rain forest.” Emphasis is placed on the layers of the rain forest, animals and plants living in each of these layers, and indigenous people who make the rain forest their home. Learning is done through literature, role play, song, and crafts.

Latin America
A short geography lesson gives campers knowledge of the countries of Latin America. Campers experience Latin American culture by cooking a real Latin American meal and sip a drink-in-a-bag. A relaxing stroll in WorldSong’s Latin American market gives campers a chance to bargain for goods and try on authentic Guatemalan clothing. Campers take part in creating a Guatemalan sawdust carpet and weave a simple friendship bracelet.

Africa
Visit WorldSong’s African Village and study the Maasai people. Campers taste food of the Maasai, learn Swahili words and phrases, and make mud bricks like the Maasai people do when they prepare to build their huts. Other African cultures are studied through crafts, food, folktales, and games.

Native Americans
Explore Native American culture while you listen to storytelling in a tipi. Dance an authentic Native American dance. Beat drums, shake gourd rattles, and play other Native American musical instruments. Uncover the past by digging in World Song’s “middens” and reconstruct a picture of an earlier culture. Exercise by playing a Native American game and have fun making several Native American crafts.

Christmas Around the World
Join us for Christmas festivities from around the world. Campers will hear the “True Story of Christmas” and participate in numerous activities from the countries of Germany, England, and Mexico. Campers will enjoy a tasty tidbit from the country they are visiting, sing carols from that country, and enjoy making a craft to take home from their visit to Christmas Around the World.
